This is one of the many school rooms converted into torture chambers. The prisoner was brought from their cell to this metal spring bed and chained down by their wrists and ankles with huge iron shackles. At this point they were beaten, electricuted, had their fingernails torn out and acid dripped on their wounds, until a confession was given. At this point they would be further tortured or killed with a shovel blade or just starved to death back in their cell.
Crying usually meant more torture.
